Chapter 9 Let Me Stay With You

  • Lu Yuzhen’s pupils constricted. He quickly grabbed the first aid kit and dabbed a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol to help clean her wound. “Do you understand now? This is what happens when you make me repeat myself thrice.”
  • Xia Micheng gazed at his clenched jaw. “Mr. Lu, are you referring to domestic violence?”
  • Lu Yuzhen helped her to paste on an adhesive bandage. A slight smile formed on his thin lips. “And yet you still dared to enter this place. You’re a rather foolhardy and courageous one, hmm?”
  • Xia Micheng’s beautiful angled eyes gazed at him. “Mr. Lu, others may fear you, but I don’t.”
  • Lu Yuzhen’s slender fingers paused in their motions. He peered at her face, which now looked even more pitiful with the bandage plastered on it. “Leave. Let me be alone.”
  • With that, Lu Yuzhen helped Xia Micheng up.
  • Xia Micheng’s alabaster arms reached out and wrapped themselves around his sturdy waist.
  • The moment she hugged him, Lu Yuzhen’s firm body instantly stiffened. She was so soft that it was as though she was boneless. Her face nestled against his firm chest, snuggling against him like she was an obedient little kitten.
  • Lu Yuzhen could once again sniff her pleasant fragrance, the smell tugging on his nerves.
  • Just then, Xia Micheng spoke softly in his embrace. “Mr. Lu, don’t seclude yourself. You can have someone by your side. Let me stay with you.”
  • Lu Yuzhen’s angry, popping veins gradually went down. Even the frightening dark aura lingering in his eyes was vanishing. He reached out and hugged her.
  • He rubbed his handsome face in the soft strands of her hair; her fragrance made him feel a sense of deja vu.
  • Perhaps it was because she had just eaten some strawberry cake, the delicious aroma of fruits still lingered on her.
  • Xia Micheng quietly held him, before she began to move her little hands up his body, moving up to caress the shoulder blades jutting out by the top of his back. “If you still feel unwell, how about a bite then?”
  • It was important for people to have a proper outlet for their emotions.
  • “You want me to bite you? Aren’t you afraid of the pain?”
  • “Nice thinking, but what I meant is…”
  • Xia Micheng got on her toes and chomped on his firm shoulder.
  • She bit him so swiftly and viciously that he hadn’t even anticipated it. Blood quickly seeped through the cloth of his white shirt.
  • She had drawn blood.
  • She had almost bitten a chunk out of his shoulder.
  • The excruciating pain made Lu Yuzhen’s muscles clench together. He staggered backward with Xia Micheng still in his arms. Her delicate legs knocked against the corner of the sofa, causing them to tumble right onto its soft seats.
  • “Mrs. Lu, are you taking revenge on me?” Lu Yuzhen had her pinned. The burn of the pain slowly dispelled the darkness clouding his eyes, returning some of their clearness to them.
  • Xia Micheng raised a groomed brow. “You pushed me earlier, so I bit you. We’re about even now.”
  • Xia Micheng attempted to get up, but Lu Yuzhen held her by her gleaming shoulder and pushed her back down.
  • The position they were now in was rather suggestive.
  • Xia Micheng’s eyes met his. Eerie red embers leaped around in his eyes as he stared at her. It was like he was staring at a delicious little prey animal.
  • “Mr. Lu, what are you doing?”
  • “You smell really good. You still haven’t told me the name of the perfume that you wear.”
  • Xia Micheng’s lips quirked up. “Mr. Lu, I already said that I don’t use perfume. You’re making me wonder if you’re flirting with me, what with your relentless pursuit for the answer. Are you trying to… get closer to me?”
  • Lu Yuzhen had always known that her eyes were stunning, especially when she was verbally jousting with him. She was quick-witted with him. He gazed at her with his own stunning eyes, before lowering his lips to the bandage on her forehead and pressing a light kiss on it. “Does it hurt? I truly apologize for earlier. I’m sorry…”
  • Xia Micheng’s senses went numb upon hearing such a domineering man say sorry to her in such a low, borderline purring voice.
  • This incubus!
  • “We’re already even, so it’s okay Mr. Lu. First things first—let me go.” Xia Micheng placed her hands on his chest, intending to push him away.
  • However, Lu Yuzhen didn’t budge; he even reached out to touch her face.
  • Long fingers travelled from the lines of her face into her raven hair. His lips began to move downward from her forehead.
  • Xia Micheng’s luxuriant eyelashes fluttered. She didn’t dare make a move. What… What was he doing?
  • Their breaths began to intertwine with each other as he gradually closed the distance between them.
  • Just as he was getting even closer to her, Xia Micheng swiftly jabbed a silver needle into one of his pressure points.
  • Lu Yuzhen’s eyes closed, and he collapsed beside her.
  • Xia Micheng stared at the shimmering crystal chandelier hanging above her and squeezed her eyes shut. Even an idiot knew that he was about to kiss her earlier.
  • She had asked whether he wanted to get closer to her. He hadn’t replied, but his actions seemed to prove something else.
  • Xia Micheng’s eyes flew open. This wouldn’t do!
  • Regardless of his intentions, there was nothing else between them save for a peaceful truce. Right now, she had many things to do, so she couldn’t allow herself to fall for him.
  • Xia Micheng tried to get up, but a powerful arm reached up and wound itself over her shoulders.
  • Xia Micheng raised her head, but Lu Yuzhen hadn’t woken.
  • He was sleeping. It was just that he wouldn’t allow her to leave even while he was dreaming in his slumber.
  • Xia Micheng attempted to wriggle free, but the fingers around her gripped even tighter. She was worried that she would end up wasting her efforts in giving him this rare moment of sleep, so all she could do was lie back down.
  • The sofa in the study wasn’t all that big, so it was a little cramped for the both of them. Xia Micheng could only avoid invading his space by lying on her side.
  • After lying there for a while, a cheery tune blared. She had a call.
  • Xia Micheng quickly groped for her phone. She hadn’t wanted to pick up the call, but Xia Chunyang was the one calling her.
  • He was her father after all.
  • Xia Micheng lied sideways in Lu Yuzhen’s arms and pressed the ‘accept’ button. Her voice was tiny as she said, “Hello, Dad.”
  • Xia Chunyang’s berating voice quickly boomed from the other end. “Micheng, what happened today? Mr. Wang had agreed to invest in Xia Medical, but I heard that he rescinded the agreement because you offended him. He said he can still proceed with the investment, but you must apologize to Mr. Wang. Otherwise, there is nothing else to discuss.”
  • “Dad, did Li Qianhui not tell you about today’s incident? What if I say that the investment would have to come at the expense of your daughter sleeping with him? Would you still want it?” Xia Micheng retorted.
  • Upon hearing Xia Micheng say this, Li Qianhui quickly piped up, “Chunyang, she’s right. I wanted to send Micheng to Mr. Wang’s bed. But, Xia Medical is currently running low on funds and needs a cash infusion. Micheng is a child of the Xia Family. She should be doing her part as one.”
  • Xia Micheng chuckled coldly. “Auntie, you have two daughters. There’s also Xia Keke apart from Xia Erxiang. They’re both daughters of the Xia Family too, so why aren’t you making them pull their weight?”
  • At the mention of Xia Keke, Li Qianhui’s pride and smugness leaped out.
  • The Xias were a scholarly family, known for producing generations of doctors. Xia Keke had a talent for the field of medicine even as a child, and therefore received most of Xia Chunyang’s attention and love.
  • Xia Keke had even inherited Li Qianhui’s beautiful looks. Her gentle and sweet appearance allowed her to be crowned as the number one lady of Haicheng City—a woman who was both gorgeous and talented. Whenever someone bumped shoulders with Li Qianhui, they would always praise her for having such a good daughter.
  • This was also the biggest reason why Li Qianhui had been spoiled to death by the Xias all these years.
  • When they were children, Xia Micheng and Xia Keke had been best friends. Xia Micheng had been cleverer than anyone back then. No matter what it was, she eclipsed Xia Keke. However, Xia Micheng had been tossed to the countryside for nearly ten years. She was already lagging behind in everything, so how could she possibly compete with Li Qianhui’s daughter?
  • “Chunyang, listen to what Micheng is saying. How can she humiliate our Keke like that?”
  • Just as expected, Xia Chunyang was displeased. “Micheng, meet with Mr. Wang tomorrow night at 1949 Bar! Be punctual!” he snapped.
