• Mr Johnson called Dr Cain to tell him that they were on their way, his daughter in law fainted. Serene was seven months pregnant they were scared that she would lose the baby. Serene was immediately admitted to the ward, Dr Cain conducted the full examination on Serene. He told the Johnson family that the baby was healthy. They were overjoyed, Serene woke up. Mrs Johnson rushed to her with a glass of warm water. She looked at her mother-in-law with eyes full of sorrow and asked, “Mom, why didn’t you tell me that my father passed away when we were in the police custody? Why didn’t you asked the police to allow me to bury my father?” Mrs Johnson didn’t know what to say, she looked at her husband for help.
• Fortunately, her husband had the letter that was left by Serene’s father with him, he gave it to her. Serene read the letter silently, she screamed when she finished reading it and fainted again. Her mother-in-law panicked and quickly pressed the bell. Dr Cain rushed to the ward, “what happened?” Mr Johnson told him that they gave Serene her father’s letter indicating that he didn’t want his daughter to attend his funeral. Dr Cain was so upset, “why did you give her the letter, do you want her to lose the baby?” Mr Johnson told him that Serene heard the news of her father’s passing from the reporters, it was difficult to hide the truth from her. Also, they didn’t want to lie to her, they felt it was better if she knew the truth while she was in hospital because should anything happened to her it would be easy to get help immediately. Dr Cain nodded his head; their reasoning was sound. He checked her again the baby was not in danger, he told them not to tell her any bad news because it could affect the baby. Dr Cain told them that Serene would be discharged the following day, he wanted to keep her overnight for observation. Then Serene woke up, Dr Cain asked her, “do you feel pain anywhere?”
• Serene shook her head then Dr Cain left the ward.
