• Mr Johnson visited Mr Cole’s office. Fortunately, he was not busy. Mr Cole smiled at Mr Johnson and said, “Good morning Uncle, how may I help you?” Mr Johnson smiled back at him and said, “I have left my wife and I need your help to finalize the divorce.” Mr Cole was so shocked because he wasn’t aware that there was trouble in paradise. He looked at Mr Johnson and asked, “Uncle, what do you have in mind?” Mr Johnson told him that he had given his wife 25% of the company shares and the house. Furthermore, he was going to give her one hundred million rands alimony. Mr Cole felt that it was fair, so he arranged a meeting between Mrs Johnson and Mr Johnson. He gave Mrs Johnson a call and said, “Mrs Johnson, you are speaking to Mr Johnson’s lawyer, Theodore Cole. I would like to meet with you and your lawyer tomorrow at 12 pm at His Wings restaurant, are you available?” Mrs Johnson was shocked to receive a call from her husband’s lawyer. She thought he would come back to her after he cooled off. Unfortunately, it was her wishful thinking. She tried to call him several times, but he didn’t take her calls. James was not speaking to her. She had lost so much weight. She was grieving for her marriage and her grandson. Mrs Johnson agreed to meet her husband and his lawyer the following day.
• At 11:30 am the following day, Mr Johnson and his lawyer arrived at His Wings restaurant and waited for Mrs Johnson to arrive. Mr Cole told His Wings restaurant’s Manager to allow Mrs Johnson to enter just for today. At 11:55 Mrs Johnson arrived alone. She was ushered to Mr Johnson’s table. Mr Johnson pulled a chair for her, then he hugged her tightly. Mrs Johnson looked at her husband with tears in her eyes. Mr Cole smiled at Mrs Johnson and said, “Good day Madam, is your lawyer on his way?” Mrs Johnson wiped her face and replied, “I didn’t bring any lawyers, do you mind if I speak to my husband privately?” Mr Cole looked at Mr Johnson. He nodded his head, then Mr Cole walked to the kitchen to look for food.
• Mrs Johnson held her husband’s hand and said, “Hubby, I am sorry for any pain I caused you and my son. Please forgive me. I admit that I was jealous of Victoria because she was coming from a wealthy family. She never experienced poverty in her life. I know I was wrong because it was not her fault, but at that time I was blinded by hatred. When my son told me that there would be a time when I wished I was nice to Victoria, I didn’t believe that, but now I wish I was nice to her. My problems started the day you brought Victoria to my house. You and my son always took her side. I felt like you were trying to replace me with Victoria. Even though she was a perfect daughter-in-law, my heart couldn’t accept her. I wish I had supported you more, my husband, when you were trying to teach our son a lesson. Please believe me my husband, it wasn’t my intention to kill our grandson. I was mad at Serene for taking our marriage for granted, but I loved our grandson very much. I understand that the decisions I made hurt you deeply, but I have changed.” Her husband looked at her and asked, “it’s too late my love. Even if Victoria wasn’t happily married she wouldn’t come back to our son because of you. My son lost the best thing in his life. You knew that Serene wasn’t the best wife for our son, but you supported her with all your heart. You even embarrassed me in front of many people at her baby shower. I felt that I was nothing in your heart and you hurt me so much. I really loved you. I thought we would grow old together and raise our grandchildren, but that was my wishful thinking. To be honest, I am scared of you, and I have given you so many chances, but you failed to cherish me. Deep down in your heart you know that you don’t love me anymore. I want someone who will love me unconditionally and respect me as a husband. You took my love for granted. I don’t know if the riches changed you or I doted on you too much.
