Chapter 21 Jonathan Anthony

  • Grace Anthony was not happy that her husband, Timothy Anthony, was trying to reconcile with his late wife’s son, Mark Anthony, so she called her son Jonathan to come back home. She was scared that her husband would give her son’s inheritance to Mark. Over her dead body, Mark would never get a cent. Her precious son, Jonathan Anthony, was 24 years old, two years younger than Mark. Jonathan was not an ambitious person, he refused to go to university, and he never worked in his life. When his mother called, he was enjoying himself with his friends in his boat, drinking with beautiful ladies. His mother told him that she had something to tell him, so he rushed home. “Jonathan, you need to change your ways, your father is trying to reconcile with Mark,” said his mother. Jonathan shrugged his shoulders, “Mom, why do you worry about Mark? He is not interested in us. Mom, when you called me, I thought you wanted to tell me that you had bought me an apartment. I am tired of staying with you guys.”
  • His mother was fuming, “Jonathan, you need to be serious or else your inheritance will be given to Mark. You know that your dad is longing for Mark’s forgiveness. Why don’t you further your studies? You can study Business Management to assist your father in the company.” Jonathan looked at his mother annoyed, “Mom, I told you several times that I am not interested in studying and I am not business-minded. Just buy me an apartment I will be out of your hair.” Grace was so upset, “Jonathan, don’t you have dreams?” Jonathan replied, “Mom, you have never taught me to dream, you told me that everything you have belonged to me since I was a child. I am confused when you asked me that question. Did you feel threatened by Mark? Forget about Mark, he will never forgive dad.” Grace was speechless, before she said anything, she heard their Housekeeper greeting her husband, Timothy Anthony.
  • When Timothy Anthony arrived home from work, he saw his son Jonathan Anthony and his wife Grace Anthony in the living room arguing. “What is going on, Grace?” asked her husband. Grace looked at her husband helplessly, “Hubby, I was telling Jonathan to go to University to study Business Management to give you a hand in the company.” Jonathan was fuming and said, “Dad, I asked mom to buy me an apartment, but she refused, even Mark has his own mansion.” Grace looked at her son dumfounded. “Jonathan Anthony, do you know that Mark never asked me a single cent since he was born? Whatever he achieved, it was his own capabilities without guidance from me, as his father. What is wrong if your mother asks you to further your studies?” Jonathan was upset when he heard his father compared him to Mark, “dad, nobody taught me to be independent, I think it is unfair to compare me to Mark and you pampered me in such a way that I didn’t think there was a need for me to be independent.” Timothy looked at his wife with questioning eyes, he told his wife not to spoil Jonathan, but his wife didn’t listen.
