Chapter 36 She Took My Breath Away

  • Grace Anthony was so miserable, she tried to call her husband several times, but she didn’t have courage. On Sunday morning, she called her best friend Bongiwe crying. She asked her to come over. Bongiwe rushed to the Anthony mansion. “What happened my friend, something happened to Jonathan?” asked her with concern. Grace shook her head, “I messed up big time my friend, I accused my husband of being biased against my son and I told him that I will never forgive him for making my son unhappy. I didn’t mean it my friend, Timothy called a board meeting to introduce Jonathan, but he didn’t show up, so I was trying to cover up for my son, but it got out of hand. I also told him that I was happy when Mrs Johnson embarrassed his precious divorcee. I regret it.” Bongiwe was speechless, she looked at her friend, “why are you competing with Mark? You know that your husband never did anything for him; he worked hard for everything he has achieved. Where is Jonathan?”
  • Grace looked at her friend, “he told me that he had a planned trip to Mozambique. I asked him to attend the meeting and delayed his trip. My husband was so disappointed in me; he told me that all he wanted from me was my support. I hurt him deeply, my friend, I wish I could take back the words I said to him.” Bongiwe comforted her friend, “Don’t worry my friend; Timothy will forgive you when he cools off. You must stop spoiling Jonathan; he must learn to be independent. What will happen to Jonathan when you pass away?” Grace promised her friend that she would stop being lenient to her son and she would apologize to her husband when he came back. Bongiwe stayed until lunch, they drank wine and left.
  • Grace cooked her husband's favourite food; she waited for him in the living room. She was wearing his favourite dress. When she heard the car, she became excited. She went to the door to welcome him, but it was Jonathan. He was surprised when he saw his mother standing by the door. He laughed, “Did you miss me, Mom?” His mother was disappointed; she thought it was her husband. “I missed you son, what happened to you on Friday?” Jonathan told his mother that his friends persuaded him to go; it was not his intention not to attend the meeting. “I fought with your father over you, I told him that I hate him for forcing you to work, and I said I will never forgive him for making you unhappy. He told me that you don’t have to go to the company again and he will buy you the apartment you wanted. Your dad is so biased against you, he favored Mark more. You don’t have to worry about your bank cards, my son; I won’t let him block them.”
