Chapter 179 Serene, Have You Ever Loved Me?

• When James arrived at Serene’s ward he called his father and asked him not to hang up the phone. He wanted them to listen to Serene’s response. The policeman allowed him to enter. When Serene saw him she cried and said, “James, I’m so glad that you are finally here. You have to avenge our son’s death. Your mother and Sandra colluded to killing my son. I don’t know why they arrested me I’m supposed to be mourning my son.” James was so angry he played the recording. Serene was so shocked she stopped crying. James looked at her and asked, “Serene, why did you kill my son?” She laughed out loud and replied, “what is the problem James, didn’t you ask me to abort our son?” James looked at Serene with sadness and said, “since you refused to abort him when he was two months old why did you wait until he was 39 weeks? Why didn’t you give him to my mother because she loved him so much?” Serene laughed out loud and replied, “you are so naïve James, your mother doesn’t care about your son. Think about it, if your mother loved your son does it make sense for her to allow me to attend a party while I was 39 weeks pregnant? When you told us that you had a feeling that something bad would happen I looked at your mother. Her eyes lit up she was scheming, she wanted to get rid of the baby. If she loved me why she never reprimanded me when I was rude to your father? Since that day you gave me the company shares your mother’s attitude changed. I wish your father would see through her and divorce her. Your father is a good man, he doesn’t deserve that old witch. Your mother is not simple James. She is heartless, have you met your maternal grandparents? Your mother despises her parents because they are poor. Do you think a person who hates her biological parents is capable to love another person? Since she married your father she never went back home to see her old parents. She has a black heart.” James was so shocked he didn’t utter a word. He didn’t know his maternal grandparents. When he was growing up he used to visit his paternal grandparents until they passed away. When he asked about his maternal grandparents his mother would ignore him. He started to look at his mother in a different light. He thought he knew his mother, but it was clear to him that he didn’t know her.
• Serene smiled and said, “your mother used me to fight Victoria. She saw Victoria as her love rival since your father loved her so much. Your mother was cruel to Victoria to avoid you going back to her. Even if Victoria was not married she wouldn’t go back to you because of your mother. She hates Victoria to the core. Victoria was the perfect daughter in law, why did your mother hate her so much? Do you think she was thinking of you trying to make you happy? It had nothing to do with you she did it for her own selfish reasons. She called Victoria a gold digger, does she understand the meaning? Victoria is coming from a respectable family. Do you think the Anthony family would have welcomed a gold digger? James, your mother played you like a fiddle.”
• James was dumbfounded and he asked, “Serene, have you ever loved me?” Serene smiled sweetly at him and replied, “Sandra told me that he fell in love with you at first sight then I decided to snatch you away from her. I never loved you, you are so weak. You rely on your mother for everything. I like someone like Mark Anthony. He achieved so much on his own. I bet the Deputy CEO position was given to you after that old witch forced your father. Don’t you have ambitions? As you know that I planned to kill Victoria’s babies and marry Mark Anthony.” James laughed out loud and replied, “you overestimated yourself Serene, do you think anyone can enter the Anthony family? Are you worthy? Tell me how do you plan to kill Victoria’s babies?” Serene smiled and replied, “by bribing the maid of course.” James looked at her with mocking eyes and replied, “you are so naïve Serene, Mark’s nanny is like a mother to him. She raised him up with her husband. Do you think the Anthony family would let you off since they know that you were planning to kill the babies?” Serene became scared and replied, “but I didn’t kill them.” James sneered, “it is the same Serene, I think you killed our child for nothing. You will rot in jail.” Serene smiled and said, “at least I have 35% of your company shares.” James laughed out loud and replied, “didn’t you read the fine print? It states that should something happen to my son the shares will be returned to my father.” Serene was so shocked she took the shares document from her bag and read it. It was like James had said. Since the baby was no more the shares would be returned to Mr Johnson. She felt like crying she killed her son for nothing. What was she thinking? At that moment she regretted her decision. She did it because of greed and to avenge herself from the Johnson family for not notifying her when her father passed away. Also, for delaying her marriage with James. She lost everything. She cried sorrowfully and said, “James, can you ask Mr Cole to defend me?” James laughed out loud and replied, “Theodore will be on my side because you threatened to touch his nephews. You deserve a life sentence for killing my son.” Serene smiled and replied, “I will tell the judge that you asked me to abort the baby. He will give me a slap on the wrist maybe ten years in prison with parole. I will be out of prison before you know it.” James shook his head and said, “Serene, don’t you forget that you are out on bail for attempted murder? Ten years in prison, dream on.” Serene’s heart almost stopped, she had forgotten that she was released on bail then she committed another crime. She thought she would never be caught. She was blaming Sandra for recording their conversation without her knowledge. She was so unlucky. She started to panic and said, “James, please help me.” James replied mockingly, “it’s too late to regret Serene. You will reap what you sow. Give me my son back then I will help you.” James stood up and left the ward.
