Chapter 134 Do You Deserve To Be A Mother?

• At the Johnson residence, they were in the dining room eating breakfast. Mr Johnson was smiling from ear to ear. He couldn’t wait to see his grandson on the big screen. He couldn’t sit still, he wished that they could go to the JHB General hospital right now. His wife looked at him and asked, “what are you happy about?” Her husband smiled and replied, “someone told me about a 3D ultrasound scan where you can see the baby on the big screen, it will show us if the baby has any deformity, the gender of the baby and his movement in his mother’s belly. Serene, do you mind doing a 3D ultrasound scan?” They all looked at Serene smiling. Serene looked at her father-in-law with disdain in her eyes and replied, “Sorry, I’m not interested. Did Victoria tell you about the scan?” Mr Johnson was taken aback. His wife looked at him with questioning eyes. Before he gave his response, James was so upset he looked at his wife and said, “What is the matter, Serene, don’t you want to see your baby? Does it matter if my Dad heard about the scan from Victoria? What is wrong with what my father just said? Don’t you want to be prepared if there is a deformity to the child? Even if my father heard about the scan from Victoria, so what? As a mother, are you not supposed to show a maternal instinct? Do you deserve to be a mother?” Serene looked at her husband and sneered, “Why do you care about the baby, did you not ask me to abort the baby? This baby has nothing to do with you.” James was so upset and said, “Why are you in my family’s house, Serene? Do you think without the baby you would have the title of being Mrs Johnson? Are you scared that the scan will reveal that the baby has a deformity and ask you to abort the baby? What will happen when your trump card is gone?” Serene felt aggrieved. She was not against doing a 3D ultrasound scan, she was upset because her father-in-law came up with the idea. James misunderstood her and that she didn’t care about the baby, she loved her son. She looked at her mother-in-law with tears in her eyes and said, “Mom, James misunderstood me. I love my baby so much. I was upset because Mr Johnson always interferes in our private affairs, I don’t think it’s his place to tell us what to do.” Everyone was shocked when they heard Serene’s words. Her mother-in-law reprimanded her and said, “Why did you address your father-in-law as Mr Johnson? What your father-in-law said is in the best interest of the baby. Apologize to your father- in- law.” Serene felt wrong, she would never apologize to Mr Johnson because she delayed their marriage. If she married James two years ago, maybe they would have a blissful life. She hated him to the bone. She stood up and excused herself, then she went to their bedroom crying. She would never forgive Mr Johnson for everything he put her through. Together with Victoria, they killed her parents. Mr Johnson didn’t even tell her about her parents’ funeral, maybe the letter from her father was written by him. When she captured James’ heart again she would avenge herself. She would never let him go. When Mr Johnson was in his old age she would chase him out of the house to the Old Age Home.
• Mr Johnson looked at James and sneered, “I have never been humiliated like this in my whole life. James, is this the wife whom you threatened us that you would kill yourself should we refused you to marry her? Do you understand now what I was trying to teach you when I gave you Victoria on a silver platter? She is so disrespectful and rude; I question her upbringing. James, when I come back from work I don’t want to see her at my house. Move her back to your apartment.” James was fuming. He had never disrespected his parents. His parents meant a lot to him. He apologized to his father, then he called Butler Ed to follow him to their bedroom. When they reached the bedroom door, he told Butler Ed to wait outside. When he walked into the room, he found Serene crying. He looked at her with hatred in his eyes, then he started packing her clothes. When Serene saw what James was doing she started to panic, “what are you doing James?” He didn’t utter a word to her. He just ignored her. He put all her clothes in the suitcases, then he asked Butler Ed to take the suitcases to Serene’s apartment. Then he looked at Serene and said, “let’s go.” Serene cried and asked, “where are you taking me, James?” James sneered, “I’m taking you back to your apartment.” Serene was dumbfounded, she regretted the way she talked to her father in law. She wiped her tears and said, “I’m sorry James. I will apologize to your father for speaking out of turn. I’m eight months pregnant. I can’t stay there alone. I promised I would go to the hospital for a 3D ultrasound scan as your father suggested.” James picked her up and walked out of the room with her in his arms, then he locked his bedroom. Serene was screaming, asking James to put her down, but he ignored her. His mother tried to remind James that Serene was pregnant, to no avail. He walked to his car and placed her on the seat, then he fastened her seatbelt. He walked to the driver’s side and drove the car to Serene’s apartment. She was sobbing, she didn’t know that her father-in-law would be so cruel to her even though she was carrying his grandson. She looked at James with tears in her eyes and said, “Please ask your father, James to forgive me. What would I do if something happened to the baby while I’m all alone?” James shot her a glance and sneered, “Didn’t you tell us that the baby has nothing to do with me? I don’t care if the baby is alive or dead.” Serene was so shocked her eyes were big as saucers, it was clear that James no longer loved her.
