Chapter 172 Since When Did You Become Superstitious?

• At the Johnson residence the family of four was in the living room watching TV, James was absent-minded. His father looked at him and asked, “what is wrong Son?” James looked worried and replied, “I’m feeling uneasy as if something bad is going to happen.” Everyone looked at him, Serene laughed and said, “since when did you become superstitious?” His mother touched James’ shoulder and said, “I hope nothing bad will happen Son.” His father nodded his head. His father was sitting quietly thinking about the lady who made his knees weak. He tried to suppress his feelings for her to no avail. He fell in love with her. The relationship between him and his wife was no longer good, but he promised to give his wife another chance and he was not willing to go back on his word.
• Macy had sent a group invite to her friends inviting them to attend her grandmother’s seventieth birthday except Serene. She didn’t want to associate herself with Serene anymore. Serene was thirty nine weeks pregnant. She didn’t tell her husband because she was scared that he would not allow her to go. When she was preparing to leave, James walked to their bedroom, “Serene, are you going somewhere?” She looked at him and replied, “Macy invited me to her grandmother’s birthday banquet.” James was shocked and glared at her, “you are nine months pregnant please don’t go, stay home and take care of our baby.” Serene was annoyed, “didn’t you ask me to abort the baby? You don’t have a right to tell me what to do, the baby is mine alone. I’m so tired of sitting around here doing nothing. I missed my old life and my friends.” She took her purse and left James standing in their bedroom. James returned to his senses he ran after Serene; his parents were in the living room. “Mom, please talk sense to Serene.” His mother looked at her son, “what is wrong son?” James told his mother that Serene wanted to attend Macy’s grandmother’s birthday banquet. “Let her go James, she needs to get some fresh air, and meet her friends.” Serene was so happy when she heard her mother-in-law’s words. James couldn’t believe his ears, he turned to his father. “Dad please help me.” His father looked at his daughter in law, “Serene please don’t go, you are heavily pregnant, stay home.” James was so happy, but his mother told her husband that Serene was not a prisoner. “You look beautiful Serene, go, and have fun with your friends. You haven’t thanked your friends for organizing your baby shower.” Serene looked at James gloating. She left the house and went to Macy’s house. James looked at his mother with sadness and said, “Mom, I told you that I have a feeling that something bad is going to happen, but you allowed Serene to leave the house. Should something happen to my son I will sever my ties with you.” Then he walked to his bedroom to rest. Her husband looked at her with mocking eyes, “why did you allow Serene to go to the party? What if something happens to her and the baby?” His wife told him that since the baby shower Serene’s friends were avoiding her. She was creating an opportunity for them to reconcile. Mr Johnson looked at his wife and said, “Rosemary, you can’t force them to forgive her. Serene will never respect her husband because you always take her side. Please refrain from doing that.” He shook his head and walked to his study.
• After the party, Macy and her friends went to her bedroom, they were drinking wine and eating snacks. Macy looked at one of her best friends Sandra, “you need to stop drinking since you don’t have alcohol tolerance.” Sandra giggled; she drank few glasses of wine, but she was finished. Serene was drinking juice smiling at Sandra. Macy said, “I was surprised to see you, I didn’t think that James will allow you to come.” Serene smiled and replied, “he didn’t allow me to come but my mother-in-law told him that I’m not a prisoner.” Linda looked at Serene as if she was looking at a clown and said, “what if something happened to the baby Serene?” Everyone looked at Serene, but Sandra stood up for her and said, “don’t be silly Linda, what could happen to the baby?” Macy told them that she had Victoria’s baby shower video she then took the USB and plucked it in the TV. They were surprised when they saw the gifts. Serene was jealous when Victoria read James’ card. Macy told them that they agreed as a family to give the twins the company shares because without Mr Anthony’s help there would no Michael Group. She was reminded when she was in police custody the competitor offered to buy his father’s company, but Mr Anthony saved the company.
