Chapter 166 I Thought We Will Grow Old Together

• A week had passed since Serene’s baby shower event. However, the atmosphere at the Johnson residence was still tense. Mr Johnson and Mrs Johnson were not talking to each other. To avoid his wife Mr Johnson started to come back home very late from work and slept in the guest room. Mrs Johnson tried to appease her husband to no avail. He used to look at her with tender eyes but recently he looked at her with cold eyes. During breakfast Mr Johnson reminded James to fetch Serene. Since she was thirty eight weeks pregnant Mr Johnson was scared that she might give birth alone. His mother didn’t want Serene to come back in her house she was blaming her for causing her marriage to fall apart.
• Serene tried to apologize to Samantha and the rest of her friends, but they just ignored her. Linda told her that she didn’t deserve a good man like James then she dropped the phone on her ear. Macy sent a WhatsApp message in the group indicating that everyone is invited to her grandmother’s birthday banquet except for Serene. She was so sad when she saw the message she immediately called Sandra crying, “everyone has turned against me even James dumped me in my apartment without any help. I’m so tired Sandra I want to go and accompany my parents.” Sandra was so scared she moved to Serene’s apartment. “Serene, you need to apologize to James and his parents if you want to have a good life. I understand that you have no feelings for James but think about the baby in your belly,” said Sandra. Serene looked at her friend and replied, “I hear you Sandra and I promise to try my best to win James’ heart. I’ve invested so much in this relationship to allow his parents to stand in my way. I will pretend to love him until I reach my goal. I want Mrs Johnson’s title and status.” Sandra looked at her friend and said, “Serene, James’ parents have been kind to you but because you are holding a grudge against them you don’t see that. You are doing everything in your power to destroy your relationship with James. How are you going to win James heart with your attitude?” Serene smiled and replied, “I have my ways.” Sandra looked at her but didn’t utter a word. Sandra decided to go back to her apartment.
• James decided to fetch Serene before he went to work. When he arrived at Serene’s flat she was sleeping peacefully. James looked at her, but nothing happened in his heart. He went to the living room to watch television. Half an hour later Serene woke up, she was shocked when she heard the noise coming from the living room. She took a golf club then she walked softly to the living room. She was relieved to see James in the living room. She looked at him and said, “you scared me, what are you doing here James?” James switched off the television and replied, “oh, you are awake? Sorry I didn’t mean to scare you. My father asked me to fetch you.” Serene was not happy that James didn’t come on his own accord, but he was sent by his father. It was clear to her that James didn’t care about their baby since he chose to leave her all alone even though she was heavily pregnant.
