Chapter 102 State Witness

  • Theodore received a call from the Prosecutor indicating that Grace's court case would take place the following day at 9:00 am. The Prosecutor had pressure from above because the case was affecting the richest man in the country. Mr Timothy didn’t interfere with the case; he wanted the law to take its course. Theodore immediately called his uncle, “Hello Uncle Timothy, I just received a call from the Prosecutor indicating that a court date had been set. The matter is set down tomorrow at 9:00 am. I heard that Auntie Grace was moved to Pretoria Correctional Centre this morning to serve her three-year sentence. I think the court will suggest that Auntie Grace serve her sentence concurrently if she is guilty.” Uncle Timothy replied, “Please prepare well Theodore, I want Grace to be punished harshly. Ensure that there are no loopholes, collect all the evidence. Grace tried to kill three people; she must be sentenced accordingly.” Theodore bade goodbye to Uncle Timothy then they hung up.
  • Theodore called Dr Cain to make an appointment to see him. Fortunately, Dr Cain was in his office busy with paperwork. Theodore greeted him and said, “Dr Cain, I need a favor. We have caught the mugger who hurt my sister-in-law. The court case will take place tomorrow morning. Is it possible to be our witness?” Dr Cain replied, “I will surely be there, I’m glad that you’ve caught the mugger. How can he attack the vulnerable and defenseless pregnant woman in broad daylight?” Theodore told him the whole story that the purpose of the mugger was to kill his sister-in-law, and he sent by Auntie Grace. Dr Cain was dumbfounded. Grace always portrayed gentleness, but she had a dark heart. Dr Cain was so upset and said, “I hope Grace will pay for the crime she committed.” Theodore nodded his head, then he bade goodbye to Dr Cain and left the hospital.
  • Detective Blade was assigned to this case to investigate the matter. He was told that Victoria was in JHB General hospital, and the babies were fighting for their lives. He decided to call Mark to ask for permission to speak to Victoria. He quickly dialed Mark’s phone number, “Hello Mr Anthony, sorry to trouble you, I’m Detective Blade. Do you mind if I come to the hospital to see young Mrs Anthony?” Mark told him that his wife had been discharged. They were at home, and then he invited him to his home. He sent him the address. Then Mark looked at his wife hesitantly, “My beautiful wife, there is something I want to tell you.” His wife looked at him with concern, “What is wrong, love?” Mark held her hand and replied, “The mugger has been caught, and he indicated that he was sent by someone to harm you.” Victoria was so shocked; she couldn’t utter a word. Tears flowed in her eyes. She nearly lost her children, not because of her negligence, but because someone had set a trap for her. Mark held her in his arms tightly. They looked at each other’s eyes in silence. She wiped her tears and asked, “Baby, who wanted to harm me and the babies?” Mark told him the whole story. Victoria was dumbfounded; she never thought that Auntie Grace hated her that much. “Where is Auntie Grace now? I want to see her.” Mark replied, “She is in police custody. I will ask Tamara to accompany you. Detective Blade has been assigned to your case. As part of the investigation, he is coming to see you.” Victoria nodded her head, and then she walked to the bathroom to wash her face. Then they headed down to the living room to wait for Detective Blade. Mark called Tamara, “Sis, will you be so kind to accompany your sister-in-law to see Auntie Grace?” Tamara agreed, she promised to be there in an hour's time.
