Chapter 191 Splashing Water Over Her

  • After the sentencing, Serene was transferred to Pretoria Correctional Centre to serve her life sentence. The female warden took her to Beauty and Mrs Anthony’s cell. When she arrived, she saw Grace in a wheelchair. She smiled and said, “Hello Mrs Anthony, I was so scared, but I am relieved to see someone I know. I am Serene Logan. I remember seeing you at my engagement banquet with James Johnson.” Grace looked at her and asked, “what are you in for?” Serene looked at her nails and replied, “they said I killed my baby, but it was Sandra because she wanted to marry James.” Beauty laughed out loud and said, “you are lying someone sent me your voice note where you were planning to kill your baby. You have a black heart.” Serene was so upset she walked to Beauty and tried to slap her, but Beauty grabbed her arm and slapped her hard. Serene saw stars and fell down. She was so upset she rushed to Beauty, but she was kicked to the wall. Serene felt her spinal cord snapping, it was no longer working. It was so painful she had tears in her eyes. She tried to get up, but she couldn't. She looked at Beauty with hatred and said, “I will get my revenge.” Beauty laughed out loud and replied, “I will be waiting.” Grace went to Serene and helped her up and said, “if you want to stay alive, please don’t provoke Beauty. I am sitting in this wheelchair because of her. She stabbed me because I couldn’t bring Mark to see her.” She helped her to lie down on her bed. Serene thanked her and replied, “I am not scared of Beauty.” Grace looked at her mockingly and said, “don’t underestimate Beauty.”
  • In the middle of the night, Serene was rudely awakened by someone splashing water over her. She was upset when she saw Beauty standing next to her bed with an empty twenty litre bucket. Serene screamed and tried to sit but her back was painful. She was drenched in water. Other inmates woke up by Serene’s scream. They were so upset they asked her to keep quiet, but she cried sorrowfully. The female warden entered the cell and approached her. Serene told her that she was splashed with water by Beauty. She looked at Beauty and asked, “why did you splash water over Serene?” Beauty smiled and said, “she provoked me first. She tried to slap me. Who does she think she is?” The female warden asked her to change her clothes and her bedding. Serene told her that her back was injured by Beauty. The female warden was surprised and asked, “did you provoke Beauty?” Serene didn’t utter a word. She looked at Serene and said, “Serene, let me give you a piece of advice. Play away from Beauty if you want to stay alive in this prison.” Serene felt a chill in her spine and replied, “I want to be moved into another cell.” Beauty laughed out loud and said, “in your dreams. Warden, please leave our cell. We want to sleep.” The female warden left the cell without looking back. Serene was so scared when she saw that. Since there was no one to help her to change her clothes and her bedding, Serene slept in a wet bed. She was trembling with cold. She needed a hot bath but there was none.
  • Early in the morning, the female warden woke them up and told them that it was time to take a shower. However, there was no movement in Serene’s bed. She approached her. When she touched her forehead she was burning, and she was unconscious. Serene was rushed to the hospital. Her fever was too high, her body temperature was 40 degrees celcius. The doctor gave her medication to decrease the temperature using a syringe, then he put her on an IV drip. Later at night, the fever had finally subsided. Serene opened her eyes. She was alone in the room. She looked around, then she saw an IV drip on her hand. She didn’t know what happened. The nurse came to check on her and to feed her the medication. Serene looked at her and asked, “what happened? I don’t remember anything.” The nurse told her that she had a fever because she was splashed with water. Then she gave her medication. Serene tried to sit up, but her back was painful. She asked the nurse to look at her back. The nurse pressed a bell, then the doctor came. She told him that there was a problem with Serene’s back. The doctor examined her and gave her an injection. Since she was a prisoner, there were two policemen outside her ward. They asked the doctor if they could take the prisoner away, but the doctor told them that the prisoner was injured. She would stay in the hospital for a couple of days. Serene was so scared of going back to prison. She asked the policeman to call her lawyer. She wanted to appeal her sentencing. She couldn’t afford to die before she avenged herself to the Johnson family. The policeman told her that he would arrange for her lawyer to see her when she returned to prison. Serene felt like crying.
