Chapter 55 Auction Day

  • At the Johnson residence, the family of three was having breakfast. Mr Johnson was in a good mood. “Victoria has been discharged from JHB General hospital, I’m so happy.” His wife looked at him annoyed, “you must hurry up and bail out my daughter-in-law. I can’t allow my grandchild to spend a day more in police custody.” Her husband became angry, “I told you to go to Timothy yourself if you want your daughter-in-law to be released from police custody, please don’t involve me. I’m warning you, don’t provoke Timothy.” When Mrs Johnson saw that her husband was not willing to help her, she turned to her son, “James, please bail out my daughter in law.” James looked at his mother and said, “I wish Serene to get a harsh sentence and be locked in prison forever.” His mother was shocked, “she is carrying your child, James.” James replied, “I told her to abort the child, but you forced me to marry her. Why don’t you go to the police station and bail her out?” His mother was so upset and said, “Since you don’t want to help me, I will go to the police station myself.” Her husband just looked at her and ignored her. She quickly dressed up and called the driver and left the house.
  • When she arrived at the police station, she asked to see the person in charge. Fortunately, Chief Smith was at the police station at that time. He greeted her, “Hello Madam, how may I help you?” Mrs Johnson replied, “I’m Mrs Johnson, my daughter-in-law Serene has been locked in your police custody for more than two weeks, I want to enquire about the bail.” Chief Smith replied patiently, “Mrs Johnson, we’ve received a doctor’s medical certificate indicating that young Mrs Anthony will be in bed rest for two months to allow her to heal; she won’t be able to attend bail hearing. Therefore, we decided not to give Miss Serene and Miss Michael bail. They are facing attempted murder charges. Young Mrs Anthony nearly died. Your daughter-in-law and her friend injured her badly, the doctor worked hard to save her babies.” Mrs Johnson was shocked to hear that assault charges changed to attempted murder. She thanked Chief Smith and decided to go to the nearest restaurant to buy food for Serene and Macy first before she went to see them.
  • Serene was taken to the interrogation room; she was so happy to see her mother-in-law. “Hello Mom, how are you doing, I’m so glad to see you.” Her mother-in-law smiled at her, “Hello my daughter in law, are you well with my grandchild?” Serene nodded her head, “we are well mom, when are you bailing me out, is Victoria still in a coma? I wanted to kill her Mom; she must thank her father-in-law.” Her mother-in-law was happy when she heard Serene’s words. She wished that Victoria died on that day too. Her hatred towards Victoria was deep. “I hate her too, my daughter in law, she has been discharged from the hospital, but your charges are serious, so they decided to keep you locked up until she was healed fully.” Serene became annoyed and replied, “since when assault charges became serious, Mom?” Her mother-in-law looked at her with sorrow in her eyes, “they are charging you with attempted murder.” Serene was shocked; she nearly fell in her chair. The policeman told them that time was up; Mrs Johnson promised to fight for her and left the police station. Serene told Macy that they had been charged with attempted murder. Macy cried sorrowfully; she regretted the decision she had made that day; she brought pain to her family.
