Chapter 69 I'm Scared That I Will Fail

  • When they arrived home, Mark called his father, “Dad, are you available tomorrow, we would like to spend time with you.” His father was so happy and replied, “for you son and my daughter in love. I’m always available.” Mark told his father that they would arrive after 10 am, and then he hung up. At that time Jonathan walked into the living room, his father told him that his brother would be visiting them. Jonathan was happy to hear that, he spent most of his time at home reading Marketing books. “How is work son?” asked his father with a smile. Jonathan smiled back at his father, “My sister-in-law is a good teacher, she is patient with me. I never thought that one day I would be working in a company, attending meetings, brainstorming in a team, and sharing my ideas with everyone. At the Marketing department, we have an employee of the month competition. The winner’s photo is sent to the CEO, and then your achievement is placed in the company’s newsletter. Also, you get a trophy, so in the meeting we choose the three best ideas, and then my sister-in-law invites other managers to vote for the best idea. The best three candidates prepare a speech to support their ideas. When I first joined the Marketing department, I felt inferior because I don’t have a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, but my sister-in-law told me that I have it in my genes. She encouraged me to apply at university to attend part-time. I immediately applied and I was accepted. I’ve wasted so much time making headlines for being an idiot. Sometimes I envy my brother, he has everything. My sister-in-law is the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. She is kind and smart. My brother is extremely handsome, smart, and rich. What I have are the things that you have given me. Sometimes I wished that I could sell everything and start afresh. I will never forget what my sister-in-law has done for me. She turned my life around. Dad, I’m scared that I will fail and disappoint you again.” His father hugged him tightly, “son, I’m proud of you, you have become a better man. You will not fail; your sister-in-law told me that you are eager to learn. I believe that you will be chosen to be the employee of the month if you work hard. Your sister-in-law is a gift from the Lord; we must treat her as the Anthony family’s treasure. The Johnson family wants her back; we must ensure that we don’t open a door for them to steal her from us.” Jonathan laughed and replied, “There is no chance Dad, my brother and my sister-in-law are fated, nothing can separate them. They love each other so much.” His father nodded his head, their love is special. He would never allow anyone to separate them. They are his heart condition.
  • The housekeeper told them that dinner was ready, and then they walked to the dining room to eat. “Dad, I nearly forgot to tell you, I received a call from the Sheriff. He told me that she was looking for mom to serve her the summons. I heard that Auntie Bongiwe kicked her out of her house because my Mom lied to her lawyer about the Prenuptial Agreement. The lawyer and Auntie Bongiwe are childhood friends. She referred Mom to him to look for a loophole in the contract, but my Mom didn’t tell him anything.” His father was dumbfounded. He told his son that he would ask Theodore maybe he had heard something. “I don’t think Mr Donald was aware of the contract because he is a good lawyer and I heard that he advised your mother to take the money I offered her, but she refused. She was aware that the restaurant was no longer in my hands, but she insisted on having it.” Jonathan shook his head, “Mom was greedy and selfish, she wanted to sow a discord between you and my sister-in-law so that my brother would hate you.” His father nodded his head; he was disappointed in his ex-wife.
  • After dinner, Timothy went to his study and called Theodore, “I heard that my ex-wife got the summons today. Do you know anything about that?” Theodore replied, “Uncle, Mr Donald is suing Auntie Grace for withholding information during legal proceedings. He had become a laughingstock amongst his colleagues, and he was demoted to do office work only. Also, Auntie Grace didn’t pay his fees. His law firm was expecting a lot of money since she was divorcing the richest man in the country. I heard that Auntie Grace called several Law Firms to represent her, but they all turned her down. I didn’t see the summons, but I think Mr Donald will ask for the compensation of ten percent of five billion rand or go to prison.” Timothy asked, “Do you know where she is staying? She went to His Glory Hotel; but she was chased out of the hotel because she was banned from my hotels and restaurants.” Theodore told his Uncle that Auntie Grace was staying at the Guest House. He gave him the address. Timothy walked to his son’s bedroom and said, “Theodore said your mother was sued by Mr Donald for failing to divulge the important information and she didn’t pay his fees. She is currently staying at the Guest House.” He gave him the address; Jonathan didn’t take it. “Dad, I don’t want my mother to interfere in my life again, so I will just ignore her. I feel that I’m on the right path, our family is happy; when we are together the atmosphere is harmonious. My mother taught me since I was young to fight for my inheritance. I’m twenty-four years old but I haven’t achieved anything. When I refused to go to university, she didn’t force me; she told me that I would inherit the whole Anthony wealth. I wish I had a relationship with my brother when I was young. He is my role model. I like his resilience and his determination. If I was in his shoes, I think I would have been a beggar. He never looked down on me, I love and respect him.” He had tears in his eyes; his father hugged him tightly, from that moment he knew that his younger son would never go back to his old ways.
