Chapter 158 Journey To India

  • When they arrived at the hotel, Manager Simon Doyle was standing at the door greeting the guests. He was about to go back to his office when his eyes caught two gentlemen approaching him with a smile. He was puzzled because when a guest making a reservation to dine at His Shadow hotel he was told about the dress code. He hesitated then he smiled back at them. Timothy smiled brightly at him and said, “Good evening Sir, when we were looking around for a place to eat we heard that your hotel is famous for delicious food. So, we decided to have dinner here. Is it possible to fit us in?” Simon Doyle was dumbfounded because to have dinner at His Shadow hotel one should have made a reservation beforehand. Simon Doyle looked at them then he noticed that even though they weren’t wearing formal clothes, but their aura was noble. He smiled back at them and replied, “Good evening to you too Sir, we are fully booked. Also, your dress code is wrong. However, my mother taught me not to chase a guest away. Since His Shadow hotel is my home I will accommodate you. Let’s go inside.”
  • Then they followed him to his office, he asked them to sit on the sofa. His office was spacious. Then he walked out of his office, after few minutes he came back with a waiter carrying two tables then the waiter went out and came back with the chairs. Simon Doyle set up the tables then he gave the menu to his guests. Mr Anthony smiled at him and said, “thank you for your hospitality, do you mind recommending your delicious dish?” The hotel Manager smiled and replied, “please try our famous Journey to India, it has mouth-watering Butter Chicken, Traditional Natal Lamb, Singaporean Fish Curry served with steamed Basmati, roti, and sambals. Also, we have our tender and succulent Fillet Steak served with grilled veggies.” Mr Anthony smiled at the hotel Manager and replied, “please serve both dishes we would like to taste both of them.” He looked at Patrick and asked, “do you want to order something else?” Patrick shook his head then Simon Doyle walked out of the office with the waiter. Few minutes later he came back with a jug of Orange Mango juice and a jug of water then he asked his guests to sit at the dining table. After half an hour the waiter came with their food, the aroma filled the office. They started with the Journey to India dish since they had never tasted it before. It blew their minds it was beyond delicious. They didn’t want to eat the Fillet Steak dish anymore Simon Doyle packed it for them. Patrick smiled at Timothy and said, “I have never tasted something like this before it is super delicious.” Timothy nodded his head when he was preparing to pay the bill, Simon Doyle told him that it was on the house.
  • Timothy looked at him with questioning eyes, Simon Doyle smiled at them and said, “my father was very sick for a long time then his company medical boarded him due to ill-health. He didn’t receive lot of money because he was just an ordinary employee. Even though he had medical aid, but the funds were running out quickly. The money that we had was used to buy his medicine and in the blink of an eye it was finished. We had no food at home so one day I was passing this hotel, the old Manager Mr Oliver was standing by the door greeting the guests. I approached him then I told him that my family was hungry no one was working at home. I asked him to give me a loaf of bread, he asked me to follow him to the kitchen. He gave me lot of food then he told me that he would reserve food for me and my family. I was so happy, every day I would come to this hotel to collect our food. Then on weekends I volunteered to wash the dishes, I was doing Grade 12 at that time. Mr Oliver promised to hire me as a waiter when I passed Grade 12. I worked hard I passed well then I was hired. However, my Dad passed away few days after I started working, it was as if he was waiting to see my Grade 12 results. I would never forget the kindness Mr Oliver showed me. After two years I was promoted to be a Supervisor then when Mr Oliver retired I was promoted to his position. This hotel is my home and my life savior. It saved my family, we never slept with empty stomach for that I would be forever grateful. When I saw you I was reminded of the day I was also hungry, but someone took pity on me. I couldn’t chase you away even though the hotel was fully booked because when I was hungry no one chased me away.”
