Chapter 3 You Should Be Named a Tomboy!

  • “Madam, President Yu will be here right at 6 p.m.,” said Du Yue after Ruan Shishi got out of the car.
  • Ruan Shishi was staying in an old neighborhood for teaching staff. So, the sight of her getting out of a luxury car drew a lot of attention in an instant.
  • Ruan Shishi had no time to think about how Du Yue knew that she was staying here. She gave Du Yue a nod and quickly fled the scene.
  • She climbed upstairs to the 6th floor without stopping. When she reached the entrance of her home, she was already gasping for breath while feeling exhausted.
  • She was about to knock on the door when Madam Liu, her mother, stood behind her while carrying her grocery basket.
  • She opened the door while saying in disapproval, “Shishi, why are all out of breath like this? That’s not lady-like at all.”
  • Ruan Shishi stuck her tongue out. As soon as the door was opened, she took off her shoes and entered her home before Madam Liu did. Then, she immediately rushed into the living room and picked up the glass of water that she left in the morning to drink it.
  • Madam Liu shook her head in exasperation. “Ruan Shishi, the way you conduct yourself is truly a disservice to the name that I gave you. You should be named a tomboy instead!” she said as she put her grocery basket away in the kitchen. Then, she walked out of the kitchen and muttered, “I heard from Mrs. Liu of the neighborhood when I came back that there was a girl who just got out of a luxury car. I wonder whose daughter she was. What a good fortune she has.”
  • Ruan Shishi said timidly in a weak voice, “That was me.”
  • “Hmph. You? Would a wealthy man take a fancy to you?” Madam Liu smirked disdainfully. “Let beggars match with beggars. Ruan Shishi, look at yourself in the mirror, and you will know what kind of man you deserve.”
  • Madam Liu’s outright disbelief and merciless hammering left Ruan Shishi speechless.
  • Madam Liu and Professor Ruan were both lecturers at the university, so it could be said that Ruan Shishi was born into a family of scholars.
  • When it came to Ruan Shishi’s marriage, the Ruan Family upheld that she should look for a partner from a family of similar background; they had never thought of marrying her off to a wealthy man.
  • Plus, they didn’t want such a scenario to happen to Ruan Shishi since it was not that easy to be the wife of a wealthy family.
  • Ruan Shishi knew her parents’ thoughts as well. If she told Madam Liu that she had indeed been married into a wealthy family—and the wealthiest family at that—she wondered if Madam Liu would pass out from shock.
  • “By the way, how was your blind date today?” said Madam Liu to Ruan Shishi in an interrogative manner as she walked over and sat down on the sofa.
  • Madam Liu was now retired and she would normally stay at home; she usually spent her time by square dancing and volunteering at the hospital.
  • The blind date that Madam Liu set Ruan Shishi up with was the grandson of Madam Li, whom she knew at the hospital.
  • “Mom, where did you know that man from?” Ruan Shishi put the glass down and sat beside Madam Liu on the sofa.
  • “He is Madam Li’s grandson. From what I have heard, he is already 30 years old, but he remains single because he has been busy with work. I saw his photo, and he looked quite matured and steady.” Madam Liu smiled softly at the mention of Yu Yimo as she was visibly very pleased with him.
  • Ruan Shishi bit her lips as she observed her mother’s facial expressions. Her mother had obviously no idea who Yu Yimo really was.
  • “You haven’t answered my question yet. How was he?” Madam Liu shot Ruan Shishi a dirty look upon realizing that her daughter had diverted the topic.
  • Ruan Shishi nodded her head while biting her lips. She answered perfunctorily, “He… He is nice.”
  • She pondered deep down inside if she should let out that she had registered for marriage by accident.
  • “That’s good. You may try getting along with him first since only time will tell if he is a good match for you.” Madam Liu stood up and walked toward the kitchen to wash the vegetables that she had just bought.
  • Seeing that Madam Liu was about to enter the kitchen, Ruan Shishi rushed over in a big stride and tugged at Madam Liu’s sleeve. She asked, “Mom, where is Dad? Is he coming home for dinner tonight?”
  • “Yes, he’ll be home tonight. What’s the matter?” asked Madam Liu.
  • Ruan Shishi shook her head before nodding her head. Finally, she said in a whisper, “Err, he’s coming to our home for dinner tonight.”
  • She decided to inform Madam Liu first that Yu Yimo was coming. As for her marriage certificate, she wanted to keep it a secret until Professor Ruan returned home so that she could have someone covering her back.
  • “Who?” Madam Liu didn’t understand who Ruan Shishi meant at first, but upon seeing her daughter’s blushing face, she instantly realized who Ruan Shishi was referring to.
  • “That’s great!” Madam Liu shot a glance at the vegetables in her basket and immediately walked to the front door. She changed her shoes while saying, “I’m going to buy some fish and meat.”
  • The door opened and closed, and Madam Liu had left home before Ruan Shishi could react.
  • Only after Madam Liu left did Ruan Shishi heaved an internal sigh of relief. She went back into her room and closed the door. Then, she carefully took out the marriage certificate from her pocket.
