• Rafael kept staring at her but if Sam minded, she didn’t show it. I had no idea what was wrong with him because he was smiling like an idiot on drugs. I’d never seen him react like that to anyone. He only had eyes for Sam.
• ‘She’s not evil, she’s perfect,’ Rafael said in my mind and I nodded as I frowned at him. I had come to the same conclusion earlier but I relaxed hearing him confirm it. She’s perfect? I wondered briefly if Rafael was drunk as well as high.
• We sat in silence and I listened in on her conversation as she spoke to a woman and told her what happened. I came to the conclusion that the woman was her grandmother and driving in the dark wasn’t an option for her.
