• I took the backpack and the two Jericho’s and headed to the garage. I placed the Jericho’s with their silencers in the compartments and put the backpack on my back. The bike was almost on empty and I drove away from the farmhouse, wondering if I would ever return to it.
• I felt like I had lost something. ‘It’s just a house. You can rebuild,’ I said to myself as I turned onto the Old Highway and sped up slightly. I had taken the bike because it was faster. The truck could drive further than the bike on a tank of gas, but it also made me a sitting duck if I was found.
