• Six months had gone by and Jules had made no contact with me. Her silence hurt and I’d become a little withdrawn. I phoned Mary every week to ask how she was and how Jules was doing. She didn’t talk about Jules a lot. I sent her money every month even though she kept telling me that it wasn’t necessary, but I could see that it was. The bed and breakfast was doing very well. I still felt that she was my responsibility because my feelings for Jules hadn’t changed.
