Chapter 806

• I placed pillows on either side of Regen and went downstairs to the kitchen. I felt helpless as I switched the kettle on. I made coffee for myself and I wondered what was keeping her so long. She had told me that she would be back but now I was imagining the worst outcome.
• Jo hadn’t called or texted and she’d been gone for nearly six hours. I checked the tracking on her car and saw that she had stopped at her father’s house and her car was still there. I had promised myself that I wouldn’t check up on her, but I couldn’t help it.
• I spent the afternoon with the kids and by 5 PM I started dinner when Regen complained that he was hungry. I fed them and bath time took longer than usual because Jo usually did that and Regen was playing as I sat on the floor with my back against the wall and watched him.
