• In the parking lot, Adelie let go of my hand and walked to her car. I got in the Jeep and looked at her as she drove in front. She turned off toward the house, and I knew she was going to get her overnight bag. I drove on to my own house and parked in the garage.
• I switched the kettle on and heard her car park in the garage. I walked to the side door just as she climbed out. “We should talk about this afternoon.”
