• I struggled to fall asleep, but when I did sleep, my dreams were haunted by the dead. I couldn’t let anyone die, especially not my child. I closed my eyes again and it felt like I was traveling through the abyss, but instead of darkness, a bright light consumed me.
• “Open your eyes, Kai,” a voice said to me. I could feel her aura, it was unlike anything else I had ever experienced. Power rolled off her, and I couldn’t help but bow in front of her. I tried to open my eyes, but I could only do that once her aura diminished.
• “Stand up,” the voice said again, and it felt automatic when I got to my feet and my eyes adjusted to my surroundings. She was standing on the second to last step, in front of three thrones. Her expression was unreadable, but somehow, I wasn’t afraid.
