• At 6 p.m., Malachi drove home and sighed when he found the side door unlocked. She never locked the doors, no matter how many times he told her to. He stopped in the kitchen and looked at the empty sink and frowned.
• He hadn’t washed their breakfast dishes that morning and he headed up the stairs towards their bedroom where he found Jessica in front of her vanity where she applied a coat of mascara to her eyelashes.
• “What’s going on with you?” Jessica looked at him in the mirror. “You did the dishes.”
