• I finished my shift at the hotel and stayed a few more hours, making sure that the Mayor was happy, and that everything went off without a hitch. I checked on the kitchen staff, making sure they were set for the event, before checking in on the night shift reception staff before leaving.
• I wasn’t looking forward to going to the house for dinner, but I knew if I canceled, then I’d have Kiran on my case, as well. I stripped off my suit and stood in the shower. I knew Tessa was right in her assessment of me. I didn’t smile at work. I wasn’t their friend, and I had no interest in being some nice guy so they could see me as a person.
• I stood in front of the open closet and looked at Kari’s clothes. It was probably time to get rid of them. I rubbed my hands over my wet hair before pulling on jeans, a t-shirt, with a jacket and boots. My skin rippled with anxiety, as if even my wolf knew we’d see her soon.
