- The next six months were spent registering Jo’s non-profit organization, building the cabins, getting inspections approved, applying for her IRS exemption and lots of meetings with local schools, churches and the Police Chief, Sheriff Watson.
- That was an important aspect of Jo’s safehouse since these women would all need that type of protection. I wasn’t about to let Jo just do this and not have everything in place to keep these women safe.
- Jo didn’t need to apply to Legal Aid or the other social worker agencies for donations because we would be funding it ourselves and I created a few companies that made regular donations. She hired social workers, two psychiatrists, two lawyers and an accountant.
