• As promised I drove into Sonoma six days later on the bike and I headed to Mary’s guest house. Jules still hadn’t taken any of my calls or read any of my texts and I knew that she had blocked my number which was a really low blow. Was she really that serious when she said she was done? It was 8 AM and Mary smiled when she saw me walk through the front door.
• “Alex, sit down, are you hungry?” she asked me as I sat down at the only empty table and I nodded.
• “I haven’t eaten properly since leaving your house,” I said to her and she laughed as she disappeared into the kitchen at the back.
