Chapter 31

  • Lexi’s POV
  • I’m met at the bottom of the stairs by Declan and Conor, who both look dashing in their tux’s. “Aww Lexi I’m so glad you made it tonight. You look ravishing in that dress. I must say that Luca downgraded when he left you for Kat. Save me a dance later?” Conor says to me. I can see Luca watching our interaction out of the corner of my eye, so I smile really big, and say “of course just come and find me when you’re ready.” I wink at him while I brush beside him. I pretend that I don’t notice Luca’s stares and when I look towards him, he is staring me right in my eye. I stop for a second, then shift my focus over to mother and start walking again. A waiter walks by me carrying champagne I grab one off the tray in a haste. Luca’s dad welcomes me with open arms, and wraps me in a big hug so does mother. I settle where I am the furthest away from Kat and Luca.
  • The look that Kat is giving me is telling me that she is pissed that I am here. Luca’s death stare isn’t far from matching hers exactly. I see a group of ladies I know in a circle so I excuse myself and trudge over to them. We greet each other, I show them pictures of LJ, this is how my whole night goes. Out of every group I talk to there is at least one person who brings up Luca and Kat. I just tell them that’s old news, and brag about how good they look together, before I try to laugh it off. I’m standing here talking to mother and one of her dear friends when I feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn around and see Conor standing behind me. “How about that dance,” he asks me. I give my flute to mother to hold and place my hand in his. He led us out to the dance floor where there was only one other couple dancing. This is what it means to be the center of attention, I don’t like it. Conor seems to pick up my tension, so he starts talking to me. “Just pretend like no one is watching. I know it’s hard especially when there isn’t a person here that isn’t talking about us dancing right now. If you like I can tell them all to mind their own fucking business?” I start to laugh because I can ale that he is being serious as a heart attack right now. “No, I don’t think that would make people stop staring or talking about us. I’m just nervous I’ve never been a strong slow song dancer before.” I admit to him.
