Chapter 21

  • Lexi’s POV
  • Luca isn’t happy that I called him out of his study, but I didn’t want to talk about this in front of other people. I walk about six feet from his office, and when he gets to where I’m standing, I hand him one of the sticks. I plaster on a smile that reaches both of my ears, and wait for him to finally understand what he is looking at. I can tell the moment it clicks in his brain, because his body goes rigid, and he jerks his head up so he can see me. “Does this mean what I think it does, that your pregnant with my baby?” Tears start of sadness start to fall from my eyes, but I keep the fake smile of happiness on my face. Anyone who saw me would think that I was crying happy tears. He lunges forward and embraces me in his arms. “You keep proving to everyone that I made the right choice by picking you as a bride. I can’t wait to tell the family, now my dad and everyone else can get off my back. If it wasn’t for them forcing me into a marriage, and producing an heir, we wouldn’t be standing here today. I would have fucked you and then sent you on your way back to Marco’s.” He tells me between chuckles.
  • ‘Talk about a knife to the throat. I don’t know why his words are affecting me so much. Yes, I do know why, it’s because I realized that I really do love Luca. I thought he picked me out of everyone, because he wanted me. Not because he had to choose someone. He ruined my life and doesn’t even really want to be with me. Why couldn’t he have chosen one of the daughters of the high-ranking members. They at least understand and are willing to marry into a loveless marriage. I’ve been lying to myself this whole time, about the reason Luca brought me here. How can I raise my child with him, knowing that he doesn’t love or want us. We’re a necessity that he had to have to fulfill his promise to the only thing he loves, his mafia family.’ I spin around on the ball of my foot and run up the stairs back in our room into the bathroom. I sit on the floor and cry my eyes out; I don’t stop until Luna knocks on the bathroom door. ‘I forgot about having to go get my family for a stupid dress fitting, for a wedding that only leads to a loveless unhappy marriage. One that I’ll be bound to for the rest of my life, since the mafia doesn’t believe in divorce. Unless I escape before the wedding. Is it even possible, but what about my family? What would he do to them?’
