Chapter 23

• Lexi’s POV
• There isn’t any time to argue, so I grab a flash light and climb down the ladder. I stand at the bottom and wait for everyone to make it down. Once Luna shuts the latch back, we lock it from the inside. We hear noises up above and the sound of wood breaking. Not sure what to do, I don’t want to get lost down here, but I don’t want to be sitting ducks either. The sound of guns going off pulls me out of a daze. “We need to move” I say. It goes quiet up there until I hear a man yelling out my name. I recognize the voice it’s Enzo. I start to climb back up the ladder and undo the lock.
• I open the hatch just a little trying to double check that it is Enzo, but someone jerks the door wide open instead. I’m face to face with a very scared looking Enzo and Marco. I let out a deep breath and tell everyone to “start climbing back up we’re safe now.” Enzo helps me out first then everyone else who comes up. Letting out a loud sigh of relief, my hands go directly to my stomach. It doesn’t go unnoticed by my very pissed off mother. She’s marching towards me yelling, “what the hell, who was those men? This has something to do with that man of yours doesn’t it. Well sorry to bust your little happy bubble, but you won’t be marrying him tomorrow or any other day. We’re going home tonight.” Backing away from her only pisses her off more. “I’m sorry about all of this, truly I would never put my family in danger. But I am a grown adult and you might not like my choices, but there isn’t a thing you can do about them. I won’t be going anywhere with you. If you really want to leave than, I’ll ask Luca if he can ready his plane for you tonight.” I say with determination. My mother is standing there with her mouth hung opened looking at me. During this time Luca arrives and comes into the room. He stops and talks to Enzo, and Marco first which makes me feel even more like second rate to him. I wanted to reach out and tell my mom that if I had a choice that I would go with her in a heartbeat. There is no way that Luca would ever allow me to leave before, now that I’m pregnant with his baby there isn’t any part of me that is even hopefully anymore. I’ll always belong to him, and there isn’t nothing I can do about it.
