Chapter 8 Her Younger Brother

  • Two days in a row of getting tossed around had also left Su Luoli with several hickeys on her neck. She chose to hide them with high neck top.
  • As usual, Zhao Nini sat on the sofa in front of the television eating melon seeds, looking just like the mistress of the house.
  • Su Luoli cleared her throat as she walked down the stairs and sat on the sofa. Zhao Nini leveled a glance at her.
  • "What? If you want breakfast, make your own!" Zhao Nini was as bad-tempered as always.
  • Su Luoli then realized that Zhao Nini had cooked dinner yesterday because she was worried about being found out by her master!
  • However, she was not going to think about that meal. It was not like Zhao Nini's skills were good!
  • "I want to ask you something."
  • Zhao Nini turned her head to give Su Luoli a once-over. "What you do what to ask?"
  • "His surname is Wen?"
  • Su Luoli had heard this from her conversation yesterday with Zhao Nini. This was the first time she had heard her husband's surname.
  • Zhao Nini laughed in contempt. "You don't even know your husband's surname!"
  • "So how old is he?" Su Luoli continued to ask.
  • She might have been sleepy last night, but while they were having sex, she was sure it was a young man!
  • Remembering Wen Qingmu's instructions last night, Zhao Nini narrowed her eyes and answered, "In his forties."
  • "Oh…"
  • Su Luoli's response was full of contemplation. The suppleness of the skin and tightness of the muscles last night could belong to someone on their forties if they worked on it.
  • Zhao Nini scoffed at her. "I'm telling you now. Don't assume anything about Sir in his forties. His body won't lose to the kids in their twenties. Sir is suave and stylish, and he's super smart too!"
  • And Su Luoli understood. The way Zhao Nini defended this man, she must have liked him from the start!
  • "Alright, I have nothing more to ask." Su Luoli stood up.
  • "Hey, I told you right? When Sir is here, you better wait on him. Don't make him angry, otherwise you'll see!"
  • Su Luoli rolled her eyes dramatically. Zhao Nini seemed more like the terrible mother-in-law in the drama serial than a caretaker.
  • When she returned to her bedroom, Su Luoli glanced at her phone and saw the calendar reminder indicating that she had an audition today.
  • This close to graduation, her classmates had all signed with big and small management companies. Except her, whom no company wanted to sign.
  • With no management company and no manager, it was difficult for her to get audition opportunities. This audition was an open audition, for famous director Lin Chuan's historical drama.
  • This Director Lin Chuan reportedly liked to give rookies a chance. To him, actors who had been in the entertainment industry for three to five years had already seen too much and were unscrupulous. They no longer harbored the same feeling about acting.
  • That was why Su Luoli had this audition opportunity. But her audition was only for a supporting role.
  • Even though it was a supporting role, because of Director Lin Chuan's appeal, there were going to be dozens of people auditioning!
  • The competition was fierce.
  • The ringing of her phone brought Su Luoli back to the present. She could not help but smile when she saw the number on the screen.
  • "Jianmo, how's everything?"
  • "Sis, what's up?" The innocent voice of a boy filtered through the phone.
  • "I'm about to change and go for an audition."
  • "Sis, you have an audition today!" The boy on the other end of the phone was even more excited that Su Luoli. "You must do your best!"
  • Su Luoli laughed. "Look at how excited you are. It's just a supporting role."
  • "So what if it's a supporting role? No one starts with a leading role! With your ability, you'll become a star!"
  • "Alright, alright, keep flattering me. Do you have enough money on you? How about medicine? How have you been feeling?"
  • "I've got enough, yes, and I'm feeling okay…" The boy sounded impatient. "You always ask me the same things when I call."
  • "Your sister cares about you, don't be ungrateful!"
  • "How are you and Brother-in-law getting along? Any plans for a baby?" the boy on the other end asked excitedly.
  • Su Luoli bit her lip and laughed. "My little brother, always chasing for a baby."
  • "I'm worried I won't live to see it."
  • "Don't say that!" Su Luoli admonished him fiercely, her expression had also become very serious.
  • "Sorry, Sis. I shouldn't have said it, but you know what I mean." The boy lowered his voice.
  • Su Luoli bit her lip, willing her tears not to fall. The last time her younger brother Su Jianmo was in the hospital, his long-time doctor, Dr. Zhao, had pulled her aside to talk.
  • Her brother was born with congenital heart disease. At the time, the medical field was not as advanced and there was no way to cure it. The doctors said that he would not live to see his seventeenth birthday.
  • After that, some hospital started to perform surgery to cure it, but Su Jianmo had already passed the required age. Doing the surgery then might not change anything, and there was a greater risk.
  • They were out of time.
  • Su Jianmo, born to a doctor's death sentence.
  • But he was now eighteen, and a senior in high school. He had made it a whole year past the deadline.
  • The last time the attack happened, Dr. Zhao had told her to make the necessary preparations. Su Jianmo's situation was not looking good.
  • "Alright Sis, don't be unhappy. I just want to be able to see my little nephew soon. There's nothing to it. You've only been married a year. I know you're still in the honeymoon period, but think of me, okay?"
  • Su Luoli pulled herself back to the present. "Okay, Jianmo. Your brother-in-law and I have talked about having a baby and he agrees. But you know it's not like you will have one when you want one. You can't rush it."
  • "Really? That's great! As long as Brother-in-law agrees, that's okay! I won't chase you. Take it slow and don't rush!"
  • Su Luoli had to smiled. In this past year, she had hidden the truth from Su Jianmo.
  • In Su Jianmo's eyes, she had a husband who spent a lot of time away working, so she could always return home to care for him. Brother-in-law was highly-ranked in the company and earned a lot, and of course, loved Jianmo's sister.
  • "Sis, we'll talk again. Good luck for your audition."
  • "Call me if you don't feel well."
  • "I know, bye bye!"
  • Su Luoli hung up and took several deep breaths. Her younger brother would always weigh heavy on her.
  • But she had to put it aside for now. This afternoon's audition was very important, because she was running out of money.
  • She chose an outfit from her closet, though in reality, she only had those few outfits that were presentable. One glance and that was all.
  • After changing and some simple makeup, she left the house.
  • She never expected to meet anyone she knew there.
