Chapter 6 Why Are You in Such a Hurry?

  • Wen Qingmu let out a quiet sigh.
  • There was so much time to tell her, why pick this exact moment to call her to let her know!
  • Su Luoli hung up the phone. "I need to go home immediately! Let's talk about this later. Before we come to a mutual agreement, I hope you won't release my photo. Otherwise, I'll sue you, even if we have to die together!"
  • Su Luoli finished speaking and spun around, heading to the exit. She had not gone halfway before she came back.
  • She picked up the pen of the table and wrote down her phone number. "This is my number. Give me yours. We'll contact each other again."
  • Wen Qingmu glanced at the string of numbers and dialled them directly from his phone, checking the authenticity of the number.
  • Su Luoli nodded as she saw her screen light up with an incoming call. "Then I'm off!"
  • She immediately left in a hurry and did not come back this time.
  • Wen Qingmu sighed. "Why are you in such a hurry, when you're still going to sleep with me tonight?"
  • Rainbow City villa district.
  • This villa district was famous in Z City. When it was being established, the real estate company announced that they were building a villa garden in the city, and it attracted a lot of attention.
  • This Rainbow City was conveniently near public transport and located in the outer ring of the city. There was a highway out of the city nearby and a highway directly into the city center. The villas were all constructed in a Western style, and there was a unique landscape that could not be found in the city.
  • But after the villas were built and many were sold, those who had moved in said that the area was haunted after just living there a while.
  • Several families provided feedback on similar problems, and some old folks said that the area had once been a cemetery. News about the hauntings became more prevalent and slowly, people began to move out and those who wanted to buy changed their minds.
  • The cluster of villas gradually became deserted and became its own ghost town.
  • When Su Luoli first heard that she was to live here, she had been extremely unhappy. For one, she did not have enough money to rent her own place. For another, she had to tell her younger brother that she was married and had to move out.
  • So, she had braced herself and moved in. However, in the year she had been living here, nothing strange had happened and she had gradually forgotten about the matter.
  • As she entered, Su Luoli saw Zhao Nini, the caretaker that her husband had arranged for her, sitting cross-legged on the sofa. She was eating melon seeds, and the television volume was turned up high.
  • In this house, Zhao Nini acted more like the owner.
  • Su Luoli went over to sit next to her. "On the phone you said…"
  • "Yes yes, made you happy didn't I? Living in this house alone for a year, it's been a long time coming."
  • There was a look of disdain on Zhao Nini's face, and as she spoke, she spat out a melon seed shell.
  • "Why is he suddenly coming back?"
  • At the start, Su Luoli had been astounded by the caretaker's arrogance. She was greedy and lazy; less like the caretaker, and more like the master!
  • But Su Luoli knew that she came from a village. According to her, she used to wait on the master himself and lived well there. Coming here was suffering for her.
  • Su Luoli could not be bothered to speak much to her. Besides, she did not come back often, so they both did their own thing.
  • "How am I supposed to know? This is Mr. Wen's house, he can come and go as he pleases! Did you think it was yours?"
  • Zhao Nini spat out a melon seed shell with extra force and glanced at Su Luoli.
  • "Let's get this straight. I put a lot of effort into waiting on you. You better know what's good for you."
  • Zhao Nini's voice was high and reedy. When she spoke, it gave the listener goosebumps.
  • "A lot of effort?" Su Luoli rolled her eyes and scoffed, "Then let me ask you, have you ever made dinner for me?"
  • Unafraid, Zhao Nini shot back, "How am I to know whether you're coming back or not? Don't forget, I know things about you!"
  • "Things about me?" Su Luoli was very curious.
  • Zhao Nini laughed coldly. "You only come back here to sleep two nights in a week, where have you been going? Not coming home every night like a married woman should. I wonder what Mr. Wen will think of that."
  • Su Luoli smiled. This Zhao Nini was like a cartoon villain, expounding her success. She could not care less, and turned to go upstairs.
  • "Oy, I had better remind you. Be careful with Mr. Wen. He's got a temper. Don't make him angry and then blame me."
  • Su Luoli paused when she heard that, but continued up the stairs.
  • Sitting in her own bedroom, Su Luoli felt uneasy as she tried to think about why the old man would come back.
  • He had not contacted her for a whole year, but now he was coming back?
  • Could it be…
  • For her body?
  • The thought filled Su Luoli with disgust. That balding old man looked to be in his sixties. The thought of him looming over her; Su Luoli had goosebumps!
  • And yet, she could not refuse. They were legally married. It was perfectly legal for him to touch her.
  • What could she do?
  • Night fell and the old man had not returned yet. Instead, what awaited her was dinner by Zhao Nini.
  • This was the first ever time Zhao Nini had ever made dinner for her. The taste was average, and Su Luoli did not eat much.
  • "Did he say what time he would be back?"
  • Zhao Nini gulped down her food. "Mr. Wen is busy with numerous things everyday. He can't be on time. What's your hurry?"
  • Su Luoli was unwilling to speak further with Zhao Nini, and headed upstairs.
  • She waited until ten o'clock, but she had not slept well last night and was sleepy by nine. Yawning, she looked at the time.
  • Didn't old men sleep early? It was so late, he was probably not coming.
  • She showered and went straight to bed.
  • 10.30 p.m.
  • A Rolls-Royce stopped in front of Rainbow City Villa 18.
  • Wen Qingmu stepped out of the car, the sapphire earring in his left ear sparkled in the moonlight.
  • He was about to walk into the house when he suddenly stopped, removing his earring and passing it to Yin Jin.
  • "Mr. Wen, should I wait here for you or…"
  • This place was his as well and he might stay the night; Yin Jin felt it was better to ask.
  • "Wait here for me," Wen Qingmu said as he entered the house.
  • The moment he stepped in, Zhao Nini appeared in front of him. She was wide awake waiting for Wen Qingmu to return!
  • "Sir, you're back! Would you like something to eat? Can I prepare something for you?" Zhao Nini was all smiles and eager to please.
  • Previously, in Wen Qingmu's Crystal Garden, she had only been a maid who tidied the outdoor spaces, and had rarely seen Wen Qingmu.
  • Wen Qingmu glanced down at her and frowned. "There's no need. Where's Madam?"
