• "Really?" I asked, my voice breathless, even though part of me already knew the answer. There was something about the way his eyes darkened when he looked at me that told me exactly what he was thinking, even before he spoke the words aloud.
• "Don't act so surprised. I get excited every time I see you," Ethan said with a crooked grin, that hungry look in his eyes that always sent a shiver straight down my spine. His tone made my stomach twist in the best way possible, warmth flooding my core just from the weight of his gaze on me.
• I chuckled, though I tried to keep my voice steady as I reminded him that I had a lot of work to do. There were piles of papers waiting on the desk, plans to finalize, routes to check, and warriors to coordinate. But he just raised his eyebrows at me and shook his head like I was missing the obvious. He reminded me that I also had a lot of relaxing to do, a lot of unwinding that he was more than willing to help me with.
