Chapter 201

  • We ran for the rest of the night and into the next morning before we finally stopped in a secluded place where we knew that no humans would be able to find us. It was way off the beaten path. No hunters, no campers, no hikers. No one would be able to find this place. It was too rough as a terrain, and the boulder formations had caves all the way through them.
  • Ethan got us to the top of the rock formation, and we could see above the forest, and as far as the eye could see was only woods. We would keep a couple of people on patrol, just in case there were humans lurking around. And one large wolf would be enough to scare them off.
  • The rest of us would take shelter in the caves below. They were deep and cool, and the stone walls muffled sound, making them a perfect hiding place. But I didn’t feel like resting right away. I stayed on top of the rocks, sitting quietly as I looked out over the forest, letting the wind cool my face. I think that was the moment I realized how truly exhausted I was. I had not slept properly for several nights, and the physical and emotional toll was starting to catch up with me in full force.
