Chapter 47

  • Yet at this moment Ethan and I walked back to the packhouse, the stillness of night going around like a blanket covering body and soul. I could scarcely raise my legs to gain the stairs. All my movements were like walking with weights, my body heavy and unreceptive to my bidding in not getting any sleep over the past 2 days. The fatigue was accumulated and was layered, layer by layer, until it could take me over as a whole. I was even ready to fall on the ground and sleep for at least seven days, and I think even more; I did not feel refreshed.
  • "Are you alright?" Sitting down beside me on the edge of the bed, Ethan inquired softly. There was a worried tinge to his voice, though it was gentle. I saw that he was impatient with me. He could sense it.
