Chapter 252

  • I woke to the faint sound of a baby crying. The soft, distant wailing pulled me gently from unconsciousness, and as my mind began to stir, I slowly opened my eyes. At first, my vision was a little blurry, but after a few seconds of adjusting to the light, I looked around and realized that I was in my bedroom. It was the same bedroom in the packhouse that I shared with Ethan, and everything looked just the way I remembered it—comforting and familiar.
  • I slowly sat up in bed, every muscle in my body feeling like it had been through something intense. As I started to move, I tried to piece together the events that had transpired before I lost consciousness. My thoughts were scattered, but fragments of memories slowly began to click into place. I remembered the chaos, the pain, the fighting, and something about Lilith. It was still hazy, but I knew something major had happened.
  • I tried to swing my legs over the edge of the bed, but I paused when I noticed a drip was inserted into my arm. I was hooked up to several machines, their quiet beeping suddenly becoming louder as I became aware of them. There was a heart monitor, an IV line, and other small wires attached to my chest. They were keeping track of my vital signs, and judging by the setup, it seemed like I had been unconscious for quite some time.
