• Ethan quickly connected all his patrols so that the entire border was being watched carefully. All of them reported that they were in position and that the border was not crossed during the night. Yet, I didn’t believe a single thing they said. I had a strong feeling in my stomach that something wasn’t right. The fact that my dad left that note, which Ethan found on the windowsill, meant he had already taken the girls.
• “Ethan. He has them already,” I replied, finding it hard to say.
• “How?” He demanded, sounding both confused and disbelieving. He wanted to find out what was happening. Desperately.
