• Waking up to find Summer gone was terrifying. It wasn't just the usual concern of not seeing her beside me when I opened my eyes. It was a gut-wrenching, soul-shaking fear that something terrible had happened. I searched everywhere I could think of. I asked the patrols what they had seen and questioned them again and again until finally, with the little information they gave me, I put the pieces together. The moment they told me what happened that morning, I knew exactly where she had gone. And when that realization hit me, it took every single Alpha around, along with Ryker, to physically hold me back from charging after her without thinking.
• I ended up sitting alone on top of the rock formation, gazing out over the vast view that stretched far beyond what I could see. I knew exactly where my pack was located, but from this distance, it was too far away to make out even the faintest shape of a building or a figure.
