Chapter 226

• William’s first days were the most difficult. Lohan and I showed him around the palace and explained some basic rules about how things would work. On the same day, he had assigned a guard named Jason to oversee the guest. Jason would stay in William’s shadow for a while. More than just teaching him, Jason became his guide.
• I had to stay close to William for many hours in the early days. He didn’t want to accept Jason, and his mood was very unstable. Sometimes he would laugh to himself while wondering if he was crazy. Other times, he would cry, and still others, he would run off with his wolf, wandering aimlessly around the neighborhood. Poor Jason, with all the work William was giving him, he deserved a raise.
• William only began to behave more naturally on the fifth day, thanks to Lohan’s intervention. He took him to see the magic room, showed him the entire monitoring system, and allowed William to spend some time seeing a little of his world.
