Chapter 11

  • I released my claws in an incomplete transformation as I nimbly climbed a tree. In one skillful movement, I jumped using the front branch to propel my next jump, aiming for a thinner tree a few meters away from me. I slightly transformed my legs into paws and concentrated Lisa's strength in them, intending to destroy my target.
  • I felt the impact more than the tree did and allowed myself to transform completely to soften the fall. I couldn't stand up. I changed back to human form, putting my dislocated ankle back in place. Then I returned to semi-human form to recover more quickly. Even with accelerated healing, I would spend a few hours limping on my right foot.
  • "That hurts," Lisa complained. I lay on the ground, looking at the tree still standing, though a crack from one end of the trunk to the other.
