- While Violet was still taken aback by Nathan, Penny walked over.
- She crouched down in front of her daughter and placed her hands on the little girl's arms. In a comforting tone, she asked, “Queenie, could you tell us what happened earlier? Didn't Papa tell you how to stand up against bullies yesterday? You should be comparing grades instead of getting yourself into more trouble. Why did you hit your classmate?”
- With teary eyes, Queenie explained, “Marc bullies me every day. He ridicules me for being poor and makes jokes about Papa being a security guard and Mama being a factory worker.”
