Chapter 98

• Haven sat at the distant corner of the coffee shop, tapping his fingers anxiously against the little, circular table. His eyes dashed towards the entrance each few seconds, as in spite of the fact that anticipating Alexis to walk in at any minute. The air about him buzzed with expectation, but underneath it all, there was a sense of direness. He hadn't seen Alexis in days, not since she'd left him for Matthew. But nowadays it is different. Nowadays, he was sure he could change her mind.
• The cumbersome hush extended for a number of seconds before Haven cleared his throat. "Much appreciated for seeing me," he said, his voice more strained than he'd aimed. "I know things have been... troublesome, but I think it's essential that we have a conversation. You know, true conversation."
• Alexis raised an eyebrow. "We've talked about it, Haven."
