Chapter 48
- Alexis sat at the kitchen table, her hands wrapped around a hot cup of coffee. The morning daylight sifted through the shades, casting a warm shine over the room. However, in spite of the cozy vibe, Alexis felt a chill that had nothing to do with the weather. Her thoughts whirled in disarray and unease.
- It had all begun some weeks prior. Haven , her husband, had been acting different—more mindful, more tender. He’d started surprising her with small gifts, taking her out on unconstrained dates, and communicating his love with a fervor that was both unexpected and dazing. For somebody who had continuously been unfaltering and unsurprising, this sudden change was disorienting.
- Her fingers followed the tip of her coffee cup as she thought of their later date out. Haven had arranged a nice evening at her favorite restaurant, a place they hadn’t gone by in ages. He had looked at her with such respect that it nearly made her awkward. She had attempted to shake off the unease, but a chewing feeling had taken root. The source of her turmoil was Matthew, Haven best friend.Their relationship had continuously been dispassionate, characterized by casual companionship and common respect.
