Chapter 80
- Alexis sat at the kitchen table, her hands trembling as she gazed at her phone. The warm gleam from the chandelier over did small to console her. Her heart beat in her chest, a stark difference to the calm evening that had settled over the house. The ticking of the clock on the wall was the sound breaking the quiet, each tick coordinating the fast beat of her heart. She had gotten the call just minutes back. It was bizarre, ghostly indeed.
- The caller hadn’t said a word, but she could hear their breathing, moderate and thin, like they were savouring the minute. It sent shivers down her spine. She tried to reason with herself, considering possibly it was just a wrong number, somebody who had called her by mistake. But something around it felt off, the way the silence on the other end appeared to press in on her, choking her with its weight.
- Alexis had continuously been a solid lady, one who didn’t effectively frighten. But this… this was different. It wasn’t just the quiet; it was the feeling that came with it, like somebody was observing her, like she was being chased. She shook her head, trying to expel the thought. She needed to tell Haven. He would know what to do. He always knew what to do.
