Chapter 109
- Haven stood at the window of his office, observing the rain patter against the glass. The once-bustling business that he had built from the ground up had calmed down altogether over the last year. The aftermath from his dirty divorce with Alexis had been nothing short of disastrous, both by and professionally. As he looked down at the busy parking lot, he felt a familiar hurt in his chest, the remains of the awfulness that denied him.
- It had been over a year since Alexis had left him, but the wound was as fresh as the day she walked out. He had thought that time would heal, but each day without her it appeared to remind him of how deep he had fallen.
- His phone buzzed, pulling him out of his thoughts. It was an email from one of his remaining clients, asking for an urgent meeting. Haven sighed and ran a hand through his hair. There weren’t many clients left after the divorce. News of his personal life had spread like rapidly wildfire in the business community, and many of his previous accomplices had removed themselves, not wanting to be related with the embarrassment.
