• The long afternoon was tiring for Haven as he sat at the window of his study, his tall frame basking against the warm light. His eyes fixed on the distance, but his mind was really far away, thinking mostly of his mothers expectations.
• A soft knock on the door broke through his thoughts. "Come in," he called.
• The door opened to reveal Alexis, Haven turned to face her, struck once again by her beauty. It was a cruel twist of fate that their marriage, born of necessity and manipulation, had brought together two people who found each other undeniably attractive.
