• Haven adjusted his shirt collar, pulling at it as if extricating the texture would calm the storm of feelings fixing in his chest. Alexis would be here soon, and even though he had told himself this meeting was nothing special, just two exes catching up, it felt like something more. He sat at the back seat, running his fingers along the cold wood, the autumn time air carrying the fresh fragrance of fallen leaves.
• A few moments later, he spotted her. Alexis walked with an elegance he hadn't taken note before, her wavy hair bouncing with each step. She wore a fleece coat that embraced her outline, and Haven felt a throb of regret, pondering if he’d ever completely acknowledged how excellent she was when they were together.
