Chapter 49

  • Alexis paced the little living room, her strides suppressed by the thick carpet. The room, filled with the delicate, brilliant light of the late evening sun, appeared to press in on her, increasing the turmoil inside her. The confession from her husband, Haven, had left her in a state of passionate confusion. She had been caught between the sensitive strings of trustworthiness and the tangled web of her own feelings, and presently she had to tell Matthew, the man she genuinely cherished.
  • Alexis’s hands trembled as she reached for her phone, her heart pounding in her chest. The events of the day had left her emotionally drained, and the weight of Haven’s confession was pressing down on her like a heavy stone. She couldn’t think clearly, and the only person she felt she could turn to was Matthew, the man she loved and Havel’s best friend.
  • She quickly scrolled through her contacts and found his name. Her thumb hovered over the call button for a moment, anxiety gnawing at her. But she knew she needed to talk to him, to hear his voice, to find some sort of solace in the midst of her turmoil.
