Chapter 42

  • Alexis sat in the rich living room of the penthouse she shared with Haven, her spouse. The room was a picture of cutting edge luxury—sleek, moderate furniture, quieted colors, and expansive windows advertising all encompassing see of the city horizon. But to Alexis, it all felt cold and indifferent, much like her marriage. She gazed at the city lights twinkling underneath, her mind a hurricane of contemplations and feelings.
  • This evening, she had something vital to tell Haven, something that had been weighing on her mind for days. At to begin with, Alexis had been substance with the course of action. Haven was a great man—decent, conscious, and mindful in his claim way. They lived together, gone to social occasions together, and played the portion of a cheerful couple for the world to see. But behind closed doors, they were nothing more than strangers.
  • The door to the living room opened, and Haven strolled in, his suit coat hung over one arm and his tie released. He looked tired, as he regularly did after a long day at the office, but his expression brightened somewhat when he saw Alexis holding up for him. “Alexis,” he welcomed her with a little grin. “I didn’t expect you to be up.”
