Chapter 105

  • Haven sat in his faintly lit living room, the clock ticking consistently on the wall, a soft reminder that time was moving forward in spite of his world falling separated. The divorce letter lay on the coffee table before him, a white color against the dull wood, like a signal of fear. His hands held the armrests of his chair, knuckles pale. He hadn’t however touched the envelope since it arrived, but the weight of it was pulverizing him. He leaned forward, running his hands through his hair, feeling the pressure swell through his scalp.
  • His mind dashed through conceivable outcomes, plans, anything to slow down this bad dream from becoming reality. Haven wasn’t prepared for this to end, not like this. Not with a letter. Not with so much still in stake. He didn’t indeed know how he could start to reply. All he knew was that he couldn’t just let this happen.
  • “I can’t allow her she’d go through with this,” he murmured to himself, the silence of the room nearly gulping his voice. His heart beat against his chest as he picked up the letter, wavering before reopening it. He didn’t have to be cool about it once more; the words were burned into his memory.
