Chapter 106
- The sun plunged low on the skyline, casting a golden tint over the glass walls of Haven’s office. The space, once an image of his flourishing genuine business, now felt choking, a reflection of the turmoil that had taken over his life. Haven gazed vacantly at the divorce papers sitting on his table, his name coldly printed another to the accusatory “Respondent” name.
- Alexis, his wife of a long time, had outmanoeuvred him, not just in their marriage but in each part of their life. And however, she wasn’t here to run it in his face. She was basically waiting for his reaction. The ink on her lawyer's letter was still new in his mind, but it was the truth that Alexis had sent it that hurt the foremost. No last dialog, no last-ditch efforts, just a cold, clinical notice that his marriage was over. As distant as she was concerned, it was done. But not for him. Haven wasn't just going to let it all go down that effortlessly. With a murmur, he rubbed his chin. His phone buzzed on the table, showing a message: “Call with Anderson Gather in 30 minutes.” Another bargain in limbo since his center had been destroyed by Alexis's tireless maneuvering. His business was dying clients, his group was getting anxious, and more regrettable still, Alexis was working so hard to see that it all disintegrated underneath him.
- “Haven?” The knock was delicate but firm, a sound that held his nerves more than comforted them.
