Chapter 110
- Haven sat on the porch of his calm house, sipping a wine while looking out at the blurring daylight. The weight of his last breakup with his wife, Alexis, still bore down on him like an overwhelming grapple, his thoughts twirling as the cool autumn time breeze brushed against his face. He hadn’t expected things to go apart this way. Just a year prior, he had felt secure, happy indeed, building a life with her. But Alexis’s sudden flight for another man, Matthew, of all people, had torn apart the creases of his world. The person who had come to his side amid the most exceedingly bad minutes was his ex, Vanessa. It was odd. She hadn’t been in his life for a long time, and however now, as if some constraints had drawn her back in, she started to return.
- To start with, it was a chance experience at the nearby grocery store. At that point, a welcome to capture up over coffee. Now, she was around so much that he couldn’t disregard the developing sense that she needed more. Vanessa had continuously been great to him in her own way. They’d had their ups and downs, but she had never wronged him. That had made it harder to move on after they parted, even in spite of the fact that their relationship had eventually become strained and unmanageable.
- But now, seeing her once more, with that same dynamic vitality she continuously carried, felt oddly comforting. Haven wasn’t sure if he ought to grasp it or thrust it away. As Haven took another taste of his drink, he heard the recognizable sound of a car pulling into his garage. The silver car was unmistakable, Vanessa was here once more. He observed as she walked out of the car, her wavy brown hair bouncing somewhat within the wind, her soft smile catching the final beams of the setting sun. Vanessa walked up the steps of the porch, her heels clicking softly on the wooden boards.
